Red bone puzzler

I came across a bird kill at the weekend while walking through a coniferous plantation and was amazed to see that amongst the feathers was a bright red bone, the likes of which I've never come across before.  I thought it was a piece of plastic at first sight.
I presume that it was just saturated in blood but I've never seen one that was a uniform scarlet red all over like this.  Anyone else ever come across this before?

  1. Never seen any bird remains that colour, unless Tandoori style.
